Linda Ronstadt Tribute

Linda Ronstadt

Brandy Clark: I’d like to thank Linda Ronstadt, wherever you are

J.D. Souther: I know where she is

That quick exchange at the Ace Hotel this past Sunday reminded everyone that Linda is, thankfully, still among us, although due to her affliction with Parkinson’s Disease she can no longer sing.

The amazing thing about Linda is that she is not a songwriter but she injected so much of herself into these songs that they instantly became Linda Ronstadt songs.

Linda recognizes song writing talent which is why so many songwriters happily performed to honor her.

Besides the songs, many of the performers told their stories of Linda, many of which made you realize that she was strong-willed and fought for perfection.  Dolly Parton in a taped video, talked how Linda pushed Dolly to get the best performance possible for their Trio album with Emmylou Harris.  David Lindley talked about how Linda promised to get him signed and produce his album.  J.D. Souther talked about Linda inspiring him to push on when he was writing “Faithless Love” and promising to record it.

She is quite a woman and here are just a few highlights and the set list is below.
