Adele

As I was watching my daughter’s dance recital and yet another of this artist’s songs were played (4 in total), I realized that we are in a unique time for pop music.  This is like Aretha Franklin in 1967, Carole King in 1971 or Alanis Morissette in 1995 where a single woman has captured the attention of the nation with her words and voice.  Times are different now that the internet dominates our listening habits.  We buy singles on iTunes instead of full length records. This means a record can sell only 40,000 copies in a week to become #1.  This means most adults that consider themselves music fans have never heard the #1 song in the country. Well right now it is a wonderful time to know that Adele rules the charts like no one else.

People wish they could go back to 1967, 1971 or 1995 because it invokes certain memories or they were not there to experience it.  Well, we are in one of those times right now.   Her album ‘21’ logs has spent 10 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the charts and is currently the 6th longest running #1 album by a female artist.  She has sold over 2.5 million records. Her album speaks to a generation; your generation.  I don’t care how old you are or what your musical tastes are like.

She’s over her laryngitis and playing around the country now.  I strongly suggest you do whatever it takes to nab one of those tickets so you don’t have to lie when you say you where there ten years from now.

Here’s Adele singing Set Fire To The Rain.
