I don’t know about you but I’ve always thought of the discovery of music as a solo venture. I heard music on the radio or read about it or took a chance on something just because the cover looked cool when I was at the record store. It was only at school or concerts that you discovered that there were other people like you that loved some secret little band. Of course this now betrays my age as singles played on the radio, music criticism and retail stores are no longer reasons to splurge on a full length record.
In the meantime, there’s this thing called the internet and a new social network called Turntable has been launched. You can learn about it here. If you are friends with me on Facebook you can actually join. See, membership has its privileges. I’ve been hanging out in the Indie While You Work room and have enjoyed most of the stuff played but if it gets too hip in here I can always go to the 80s All Day room. They’re currently playing Cutting Crew!
There will always be a need to bond over music which is one of the main reasons I do this blog. I am however, looking forward to seeing some actual live music tonight at My Morning Jacket show. You can’t beat the rock and roll show as the ultimate social network. Click on the awesome picture of Jim James from My Morning Jacket to hear Gideon.
