The Oscars are next week and there are four songs nominated for Best Song.
“Happy” by Pharrell Williams from “Despicable Me 2”
“Let It Go” sung by Idina Menzel from “Frozen”
“The Moon Song” sung by Karen O from the movie “Her”
“Ordinary Love” by U2 from the movie “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom”
Alone Yet Not Alone,” a little-heard tune from a little-seen film of the same name was disqualified. Songwriter Bruce Broughton, a former governor and current music branch executive committee member, “emailed members of the branch to make them aware of his submission during the nominations voting period.”. An Academy no-no.
There were 75 songs eligible for nomination. Here are a few that could have replaced the song that would eventually lose to (my prediction) winner “Let It Go”
“Last Mile Home” by Kings Of Leon from August: Osage County
100$ Bill by Jay-Z from “The Great Gatsby”
“I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran from “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”
“Atlas” by Coldplay from “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”
“Stay Alive” by Jose Gonzalez from “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty”
Doby by Will Ferrell from Anchorman 2
