New Music Tuesday

Legends.  We’re always finding new ways to salute them and that is surely the case this week for New Music Tuesday.

1) Produce their new record.  Jeff Tweedy has so much fun with legendary singer Mavis Staples last record that he decided to do it again.  He certainly knows how to bring out the best in her. Just listen to this gospel/R&B rave-up “Can You Get To That” which reminds me of The Last Waltz era Staple Singers

2) Sing on a track of their new album.  Legendary Hammond organ player Booker T has a new album out and Mayor Hawthorne does a guest turn on “Sound The Alarm”

3) Make a tribute album.  Some of your favorite American artists like Steve Earle, Teddy Thompson and Holly Williams got together to record a tribute album to legend Sir Paul McCartney, called “Let Us In Americana” Each “Americana” artist chose a composition to record and the proceeds will go to The Women And Cancer Fund, established in the memory of Linda McCartney.  You can read all about it here.

4) Remix.  Bob Marley is such a Legend that his best selling album is called Legend.  Coming out today is Legend Remixed with new interpretations of the classic songs by sons Ziggy & Stephen, Jim James and Thievery Corporation
