The fourth album from Cold War Kids entitled “Dear Miss LonelyHearts” sounds like they’re going for Killer’s type arena rock and that’s not a bad thing. The opening lyrics sound like they’re tentative about shooting for big time rock and roll
“I was supposed to do great things
I know the road was long
But I wasn’t raised to shoot for fame
I had the safety on”
It’s an exciting point in this South Bay band’s career. They’ve steadily grown their fan base and I highly suggest you see them on their first go round this tour because they’ll be playing bigger venues the next time they play in your hometown. I’m really looking forward to spending time with this album.
Unfortunately an LA band we won’t see in the near future is Rilo Kiley. They called it a day in 2011. They are releasing a wealth of material from their archives in an album cleverly entitled RKives. According to Amazon, this album will contain a “collection of unreleased songs, b-sides, and rarities spanning Rilo Kiley’s decade-long career. The record includes nine never before released songs, a variety of demos, b-sides, and previously hard to find tracks. The sixteen-song CD and double vinyl is complimented by artwork lovingly designed by the band with a rich mix of personal photos, collages, and hand written lyrics.”
Here’s the lead off track from the album. This will be a nice send off until they decide to get back together for Coachella 2016..
