Lucinda Williams has been quite prolific in the 21st century. The woman who put out five albums in 19 years in the 20th century, released 5 studio albums and a live record in the first decade of this century and is now unleashing a 20 song double CD containing almost 105 minutes of music.
It’s called “Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone”. It is the lyrical phrase that is featured in the opening song “Compassion”. The song sounds like the title sequence at the start of a film noir….slow and weary but then opens up with the bluesy “Protection”.
It’s clear that Lucinda is demanding the attention you would give a movie of the same length. This is a project Lucinda does not want chopped up into individual song purchases. It’s a tough sell, but if you’ve got two hours of time, settle down on the couch and plop on this CD or better yet, plop down the needle on your vinyl purchase and devote your attention to Lucinda’s latest.
