I’m not sure how he does it, but Leonard Cohen‘s deep growl makes me swoon. I know the man just turned 80 (September 21) but when the heartbeat bass drum, the hammond organ and the background singers chime in that they “always like it slow”, it just hits me where I live.
For those that are no longer interested in albums, I would argue on behalf of “Popular Problems” that this is a cohesive project as one song leads into the other. They are individual songs lamenting individual and collective problems we all face. This 80 year old man still has a lot on his mind and we are all the more rich for this new collection of songs.
That kid in on the cover of the album by Tweedy is the drummer, Spencer. He’s also the son of Jeff Tweedy. We were first introduced to him in the documentary “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart”
Spencer is now 18 and playing drums with his dad and creating a fun, relaxed album. It sounds like they’re both having a great time making music together. And as they say the proof is in the pudding.
