More Grammy Predictions 2016

I already made some predictions in the major categories.  It’s going to be an epic battle  involving Lamar Kendrick or Taylor Swift. Here are five more predictions in categories that interest me and don’t involve either Taylor or Lamar

BEST TRADITIONAL POP VOCAL ALBUM

The Silver Lining: The Songs Of Jerome Kern
Tony Bennett & Bill Charlap

Shadows In The Night
Bob Dylan

Stages
Josh Groban

No One Ever Tells You
Seth MacFarlane

My Dream Duets
Barry Manilow (& Various Artists)

I loved Bob Dylan’s Sinatra tribute record. He truly reinvented himself yet again I’ve never heard him croon and really envelope himself in these songs. He deserves the win

BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE

Don’t Wanna Fight
Alabama Shakes

What Kind Of Man
Florence & The Machine
Track from: How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful

Something From Nothing
Foo Fighters
Track from: Sonic Highways

Ex’s & Oh’s
Elle King
Track from: Love Stuff

Moaning Lisa Smile
Wolf Alice
Track from: My Love Is Cool

I love Alabama Shakes and Florence & The Machine but Elle King’s “Ex’s & Oh’s” playful word play and fiery vocals deserves to take home this award.

BEST ALTERNATIVE MUSIC ALBUM

Sound & Color
Alabama Shakes

Vulnicura
Björk

The Waterfall
My Morning Jacket

Currents
Tame Impala

Star Wars
Wilco

Alabama Shakes had the complete fully realized album this year with “Sound & Color” and this will be their consolation prize for not winning album of they year.

BEST FOLK ALBUM

Wood, Wire & Words
Norman Blake

Béla Fleck And Abigail Washburn
Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn

Tomorrow Is My Turn
Rhiannon Giddens

Servant Of Love
Patty Griffin

Didn’t He Ramble
Glen Hansard

The Grammy committee loves Patty Griffin and Glen Hansard but this is the year Rhiannon Giddens should win the award for her prophetic titled record “Tommorow Is My Turn”.

BEST AMERICANA ALBUM

The Firewatcher’s Daughter
Brandi Carlile

The Traveling Kind
Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell

Something More Than Free
Jason Isbell

Mono
The Mavericks

The Phosphorescent Blues
Punch Brothers

I’ve been following Jason Isbell’s career since he was with Drive-By Truckers and “Something More Than Free” was just a winner from start to finish.
