Father’s Day weekend and you’ve already spent all your money on The Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers SuperDeluxe Box Set or you signed him up for the bacon of the month club or whiskey of the month club or perhaps you got him one of these worst smelling colognes.
It’s also the official start of summer so if you’re in LA start by thinking of the beach. If you’re in the Pasadena area on Saturday, go see the Brian Wilson bio, Love & Mercy at the Laemmele in Pasadena to get in the mood for the 60s groove of Cayucas playing a free show at the Colorado Courtyard. Expect to hear a large dose of their upcoming album Dancing at the Blue Lagoon. Their first single off the album takes a leap from their 60s layback vibe to something that reminds me a lot of Vampire Weekend. This could be a big album for them, see the band now before you have to go to the Wiltern six months from now. You’ve been warned.
Also on Saturday is the welcome return of Saturdays Off the 405 at the beautiful Getty museum. Playing the first show this summer is band that also also reminds me of the Beach Boys mixed in with John Waters “Hairspray”. The concept may sound cheesy but Shannon and The Clams make it work by adding some garage punk and rockabilly to the mix. Their new album Gone By Dawn comes out in September. If the weather is on your side you’ll be able to see the beach while you hear these surf punks. Enjoy!
