Let’s folk it up this weekend!
The Way Over Yonder festival is at the Santa Monica Pier brought to you by the fine folks that put together the Newport Folk Festival. It’s a 2 day affair headlined by LA local natives Local Natives and Lucinda Williams on Friday and LA institution Jackson Browne (expect to hear songs from his excellent new album) with Heartless Bastards on Saturday. The supporting lineup is also impressive and with the weather in the mid 70s it’s going to be the perfect atmosphere to enjoy some inspiring Americana music. This gives me a good excuse to post the Carole King song from Tapestry. Let’s hope the festival is as beautiful as this song.
For those of you on a smaller Folk Music budget may I suggest you head down for the Long Beach Folk Revival Festival. There you’ll see some honest to goodness folkin’ bands with great folkn’ names like Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and The Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit (yes, those are actual band names). The festival also promises a kids area, instrument petting zoo, square dancing, beard & mustache contest, bluegrass jam sessions, craft beers, food trucks, pie eating contest, vintage bazaar, banjo contest, craft village, and the always mysterious “so much more”! Here’s the Reverend Peyton in action.
