2011 Favorite songs

Too many favorites to mention but here are the ones I think I’ll be playing for the next decade.

Adele “Someone Like You“-Rolling in the Deep would also make this list but I chose this one as it became the first song to hit #1 with just a piano accompaniment.  Extra points for the spot on SNL skit

The Kooks “Junk Of The Heart“- So infectious, it makes me smile and want to dance.  In a perfect world this would have been as big a hit as “Pumped Up Kicks“.

Fleet Foxes “Helplessness Blues“- Did the Fleet Foxes step out of a time machine from the 1970s?  They seem to have been raised in Laurel Canyon by Mama Cass, Graham Nash, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell.  Pure beauty, great harmonies…EPIC.

Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi with Norah Jones “Black” – Beautifully produced, great vocals off of an album that I felt did not get the attention it should have.  I also hear it was played during the end of this season’s Breaking Bad series.  Please don’t tell me how it ends.

R.E.M. “We All Go Back To Where We Belong” – Call me a sentimental softie but I think this song is the perfect coda for R.E.M. who called it a day this year.  I don’t think R.E.M. had too many memorable songs in their last decade together but this is one that will stick with me like every song off of Automatic For The People
